Perfect for anyone who has always wanted to start making their own garments, this course is designed for people with a basic understanding of how to use a sewing machine or those who have already completed a beginner sewing class. Guided step by step throughout the process, you will gain the skills, confidence and practical knowledge needed to begin sewing clothes from commercial patterns independently.

During the course you will work from a choice of beginner friendly sewing patterns and learn the full garment making process, from preparing patterns and cutting fabric through to garment construction and finishing techniques.

You will learn:

• How to read and use sewing patterns
Understand pattern layouts, markings and sizing while gaining confidence working with commercial dressmaking patterns.

• Pattern copying and fabric cutting techniques
Learn how to prepare your pattern correctly and cut fabric accurately for professional looking results.

• Garment construction skills
Be guided through the sewing process step by step while building confidence using your sewing machine.

• Introduction to overlocking
Have the opportunity to use an overlocker sewing machine and learn how it can improve garment finishing and seam quality.

This course focuses on practical learning in a relaxed and welcoming environment, making it ideal for beginners looking to develop lasting sewing skills and creative independence.

Participants will need to bring their own fabric and matching thread suitable for their chosen pattern. All other sewing equipment and tools will be provided, although you are welcome to bring your own sewing kit if preferred.

You are encouraged to bring your own sewing machine so you can become familiar with using it confidently at home. Machines can be securely stored overnight within the sewing space during the course. A limited number of sewing machines may be available for participants without their own machine, please enquire when booking.
