Schubert String Quintet of St. Mary's Music School

When: Sunday, June 14th 2015, Start Time: 16:00

About this performance , Findlay Spence says:

'We are a young string quintet from St. Mary's Music School in Edinburgh, Scotland. For the past year we have been working together as a chamber group and concentrating our efforts on the greatest quintet and possibly the greatest work of all chamber music: Franz Schubert's String Quintet in C Major.

In addition to this, we have recently commissioned renowned Scottish composer Tom David Wilson to write us a new string quintet which we will premiere in early 2015. We are also working on Luigi Boccherini's String Quintet in C Major "La Musica Notturna della Strade di Madrid".

Benefiting from our specialist music education, our goal in performance is always to achieve a high level of technical accuracy, coupled with the energy and enthusiasm that the young age of our ensemble (14-17 years) facilitates.

Having worked together as a group for almost a year, we now feel that the time has come to share the fruits of our labour with as many people as possible around the country'

This young string quartet are full of enthusiasm and very much looking forward to performing at the Stables. They feel that they would be able to bring something new and exciting to the series of chamber music concerts through their boundless energy and hunger to bring this thrilling programme to as many people as possible.

Findlay has a personal reason for wanting to perform at The Stables as well because he has grown up in Fortrose and concerts at The Stables are a very fond memory for him. He says: 'I remember clearly how fantastic some of the concerts which I saw at the venue and I would dearly love to have the opportunity to perform there myself. I have discussed this possibility with Simon Evans and Edward Caswell who were both very encouraging and interested. I am confident that we could fill The Stables, both due to the very appealing programme and my personal connections to the area.'

The programme is:

L. Boccherini: String Quintet in C Major 'La Musica Notturna della Strade di Madrid' (c. 15 mins)
Tom David Wilson: Cello Quintet (c. 10 mins)

F. Schubert: String Quintet in C Major (c. 55 mins)
