This is two day workshop run by artist Sarah Kay Wren, explores painting and drawing still life subjects.
A relaxed weekend workshop using found objects collected from the local beaches. e.g. driftwood, shells, bottles, netting, seaweed, stones and fossils. This time incorporating personal objects of different shapes, height and volume e.g. Ornaments, pots, dried flowers, ceramics, jewellery, camera, shoes etc….
Day 1: The tutor will set up a still life table with items from her own collection for all to respond to. Beginning with loose sketch/s in pencil, pastel and crayon observing tone, light, texture, colour, proportions and the relationships of the objects to each other. After lunch you will set up your own individual still life table with your objects to commence a larger artwork on card or primed board using a choice of mediums including acrylic or watercolour paints in combination with coloured pencils, oil pastels or chalks.
Day 2: You will develop and complete your very personal mixed media painting to take home. There will be time to share and discuss your artwork with others.
Some materials will be provided and plenty of objects to draw, however please bring along any of your own including sketch pads, water based paints, pencils and pastels and portable objects (not valuable or delicate pieces please) that you wish to paint and draw.
This workshop will be supported by community artist Sarah Galliers who has over 20 years’ experience working with groups to make art and applied arts. Suitable for beginners and improvers.
