TMSA Young Trad Tour 2010
The TMSA Young Trad Tour 2010 is a showcase for the cream of the new generation of Scottish musicians - the 5 finalists and winner of the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year Award 2010. As well as being highly talented solo performers, the sound they create as a band is energetic, dynamic and full of promise for the tradition they carry.
This prestigious award, which is organized by Hands Up for Trad provides a unique opportunity for young musicians to develop their musical careers.
There’s a real powerhouse of Scottish fiddling in this band led by the winner of the 2010 BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year, Daniel Thorpe with the 2009 winner Ruairidh MacMillan. Along with 2 pipers of exceptional abilities – Lorne MacDougall and Kyle Warren who are in constant demand, this tour is particularly fortunate to have 2 of the most promising of the young tradition of Clarsach players in Hannah Phillips and Mairi Chaimbeul. From the gentle slow airs of the Gaelic Highlands to the storming jigs and reels and the quintessentially Scottish Strathspeys- all of these young musicians are truly exceptional!
