Robert Tobin (born 1989) is currently a full time student in The Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin. He is in second year of a BA in Music Performance degree. His tutors include William Dowdall (flute), Patricia Morris (piccolo) and Dearbhla Brosnan (accompanist).
Robert began playing flute when he was fourteen years under teacher Ann Wickham, FCJ Bunclody, and after four years got accepted to study on scholarship part time in the Royal Irish Academy of Music under Professor William Dowdall.
In the last few years Robert has played with many orchestras and ensembles. These include the Royal Irish Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, Royal Irish Academy of Music Wind Ensemble, Hibernian Symphony Orchestra, Dublin Youth Orchestra and National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ireland.
In 2009 Robert toured with soloists, Dame Evelyn Glennie, Romain Descharmes and John O Coner, taking in venues such as National Concert Hall-Dublin, Ulster Hall-Belfast, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall-Glasgow and Carnegie Hall-New York.
During his time in The Royal Irish Academy of Music Robert has participated in master classes with James Galway (Ireland), Barbara Gisler-Haase (Vienna), Moshe Epstein (Hamburg), and Erin Lesser (New York).
Robert hopes to study In the Vienna Universtat Fur Musik und Drama in the 2010 Academic Year.
