Bryony Knox is Silversmith based in Edinburgh who has worked and taught in metal for over 20 years. With this course she aims to teach students creative copper embossing techniques, often used in the Arts & crafts Movement as well as by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret MacDonald.

In this day workshop Bryony will share her knowledge of working with sheet copper shim and how designs can be formed by embossing and forming this malleable metal. After sketching simple motifs from  Cromarty Arts Garden or using designs you have brought yourself, you will be shown how to transfer, and then emboss the design onto the metal with metal hand tools. The copper with then be cut into a matrix, scored and folded, to create a small keepsake box (aprox 10 x 10 x 6 cm)

After lunch you will have the opportunity to continue using these skills whilst making a fish sculpture or photo frame.

During the day, you'll learn: embossing sheet copper, shaping metal and oxidisation.
