Collected Worlds - Assemblage and Drawing Workshop

Join artist Fiona Stewart for a unique workshop exploring assemblage as a way into drawing.

In this experimental class we will construct small model boxes out of found objects whilst thinking about colour, composition and form. These Collected Worlds within a box, will then set the scene for stories to emerge, becoming the stage from which drawings develop.

In the first half of the workshop, Fiona will discuss her practice and give examples of artists using assemblage techniques. We will then make our own model-box constructions. After a short break we will produce monochrome drawing studies inspired by our assemblages.

About the Artist

Fiona’s world-building centres on the landscape as a theatrical set for narratives to unfold. Her creative practice encompasses painting, assemblage and printmaking as a way to fabricate an imaginative and consciously naive impression of place that is observed from the real world.

She studied theatre design at Edinburgh College of Art and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and has exhibited in London and throughout the UK. She was shortlisted for the John Byrne Award in 2023 and is gallery artist with the Lido Stores Margate and the Lilford Gallery in Canterbury.
